A premier pork powerhouse is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Sow Production Supervisor to join their team. In this role you will oversee the operational aspects of their sow production units and ensure the highest standards of animal care and productivity.
IN THIS JOB YOU WILL:
Direct and oversee all aspects of sow production, including breeding, gestation, and farrowing operations.
Implement and maintain protocols for biosecurity, animal health, and welfare to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Work closely with the team to monitor herd health, including disease prevention and control, vaccination programs, and treatment protocols.
Lead and manage a team of employees and contractors, providing training, development, and performance evaluation to ensure a high-performing team.
Collaborate with nutritionists and veterinarians to manage feeding programs that optimize animal health and productivity.
Oversee record-keeping for all production and health data, analyzing trends and making data-driven decisions to improve operational efficiency and productivity.
Develop and implement strategies to improve sow productivity, efficiency, and welfare.
Coordinate with the logistics team to ensure timely and efficient movement of animals within the farm and to market or processing facilities.
Manage budgets and control costs to achieve financial objectives without compromising animal welfare or production quality.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related field preferred but not required.
At least 3 years of experience in sow production management, with proven leadership skills and operational success.
Strong knowledge of swine genetics, production, health, and welfare standards.
Excellent communication, preferably bi-lingual, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
Proficiency in computer software for record-keeping and data analysis, including Microsoft Excel.
PQA Plus and TQA certifications are advantageous.
