We are seeking a Dining Room Manager / Sommelier for a busy resort near Chetek, WI area!
Schedule: 5 nights a week (weekends required: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
Shift: 2 PM – Close
Pay: 50-60K
Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Dining Room Manager & Sommelier to oversee both front-of-house dining operations and wine service at our restaurant. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for hospitality, excellent communication skills, and a strong knowledge of wines. You will be responsible for maintaining the ambiance and efficiency of the dining room, curating wine selections, providing exceptional guest experiences, and managing the overall flow of service. This is a key role in ensuring our guests have memorable dining and wine experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Dining Room Management:
- Ensure the dining room is set up efficiently for service, with attention to details such as lighting, music, and decor (e.g., fresh flowers).
- Lead and manage the dining room team, motivating staff to deliver top-notch service.
- Expedite dinner service when needed to ensure smooth and timely service.
- Resolve any guest complaints or issues with their dining experience.
- Manage staff schedules to ensure optimal coverage.
- Monitor expenses and create daily sales and inventory reports.
- Ensure the overall cleanliness and organization of the dining room.
Sommelier Responsibilities:
- Curate, update, and manage the wine list in coordination with the chefs.
- Recommend food and wine pairings to enhance the guest experience.
- Provide guests with information about different wine varieties, regions, and prices.
- Oversee the proper serving of wine, ensuring it is at the correct temperature and served in appropriate glassware.
- Store open bottles properly to maintain quality.
- Manage and maintain a fully stocked wine cellar, conducting regular inventory counts.
- Perform Wine service and train wait staff on wine knowledge and service.
- Organize wine tastings and events such as “wine of the month” promotions.
- Negotiate with wine vendors to secure favorable prices and selections.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in a full-service restaurant with front-of-house and wine service knowledge.
- Always maintain Professional presentation
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Solid understanding of wine regions, varieties, and food pairings.
- Wine certification (e.g., Sommelier certification) or equivalent experience in hospitality or vineyard work is a plus.
- Positive, "can-do" attitude with attention to detail.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and during peak business hours.
