This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Position Summary
While working to achieve N3B LLCC objectives, will ensure all engineering activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner; will maintain required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
 
Works within the central engineering organization that provides program oversight and resources to support N3B operations. Responsible for compliant implementation of the N3B Conduct of Engineering and application of engineering principles to ensure that products and equipment are designed, procured, and qualified to meet all specification requirements, support cost objectives, and support downstream customer needs. Responsible for compliant implementation of the N3B Conduct of Operations program.
 
Under general supervision, researches, designs, plans, and develops engineering products and systems to support maintenance and operability of assigned facilities or systems.
 
This position reports to the N3B Systems Engineering Manager.
 
Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
  • Develop, maintain, and provide interpretations of Conduct of Engineering procedures
  • Review, approve, and audit engineering products for compliance with Engineering programs
  • Knowledge of fundamental principles, concepts and techniques in engineering with knowledge of environmental regulations and local utility codes.
  • Interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and the customer during the all stages of design and construction support
  • Implement and work to the authorization basis documents in a Haz Cat II nuclear facility
  • Promote leadership, quality, and safety values in all aspects of job duties
  • Implement the N3B Conduct of Engineering (COE) Program
  • Implement the N3B Conduct of Operations Program
  • Work closely with customers and other stakeholders on all engineering disciplines
  • Assist with design studies (e.g., root cause analysis, new design development), identify life-cycle cost reductions, and assist with developing integrated technical positions and recommendations for customer approval
  • Develop products and provisioning documentation, and maintain technical manuals and drawings
  • Design, and upgrade facility systems and components
  • Apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of systems and facilities
  • Collect the requirements for the system, process, and components design or analysis task, and then prepare design concepts that meet the requirements
  • Develop design details, design or analysis calculations, specifications, safety documentation, etc. that incorporate the applicable design and national code requirements, including nuclear safety requirements, as applicable
  • Perform Engineering Evaluations of equipment and systems for performance, safety, and deficiencies
  • Perform calculations and develop engineering calculation reports

 
Job Requirements

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
  • Experience supporting a nuclear facility and working with engineers and other disciplines
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of industry and material codes and standards,
  • Knowledge of fundamental principles, concepts and techniques in engineering (e.g. ASTM, UMC, UPC Codes and Standards)
  • Skill and ability to perform moderately complex professional tasks under general supervision and guidance
  • Ability to organize own work independently in order to meet established objectives, using discretion in performing duties
  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communication the project stakeholders and other customers
 
Education and Experience Required:
 
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in various Engineering fields (e.g. Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, etc.) from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited engineering college or university program and a minimum of two years  related experience, Professional Engineer license, and/or a Master's degree.
 
 
 
Business Associations:
 
Primarily internal company contacts. Infrequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts on routine matters.
 
Impact:
 
Contributes to completion of milestones associated with specific projects. Failure to achieve results or erroneous decisions or recommendations may cause delays in program schedules and may result in allocation of additional resources.
 
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Normally assigned to perform work in an office environment, however, approximately 20% of time will be spent in an operations environment. Only electrical hazards and other minor potential hazards normally found in an office environment are anticipated. Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the discipline.
 
Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.

While working to achieve N3B LLCC objectives, the Process Engineer will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner to include protecting the confidentiality and integrity of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This role will maintain required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.   Ability to obtain a Q level Department of Energy security clearance.
