Job Description

Job Overview: 

A Production CNC Machining Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and overseeing CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining processes within a manufacturing environment. This role involves designing machining processes, programming CNC machines, ensuring the quality of machined parts, and collaborating with production and maintenance teams to improve efficiency and productivity. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Process Development and Optimization: 

  • Design and develop CNC machining processes for new and existing products. 

  • Create and optimize CNC programs using CAD/CAM software to ensure efficient and accurate machining operations. 

  • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machining parameters based on material properties and production requirements. 

  1. Programming and Setup: 

  • Write, modify, and troubleshoot CNC programs for various machining centers (e.g., mills, lathes, multi-axis machines). 

  • Set up CNC machines, including tooling, fixturing, and part alignment. 

  • Conduct trial runs and first-article inspections to validate machining processes. 

  1. Quality Assurance and Control: 

  • Develop and implement quality control measures to ensure machined parts meet specifications and tolerances. 

  • Conduct inspections and measurements of machined parts using precision instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMM). 

  • Perform root cause analysis for machining defects and implement corrective actions. 

  1. Continuous Improvement: 

  • Analyze machining processes to identify opportunities for improvement in cycle time, tool life, and part quality. 

  • Implement process improvements using lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies. 

  • Stay current with advancements in CNC machining technology and best practices. 

  1. Maintenance and Troubleshooting: 

  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure CNC machines are properly maintained and calibrated. 

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with CNC machines, tooling, and programs. 

  • Recommend and implement solutions to minimize downtime and improve machine reliability. 

  1. Training and Support: 

  • Provide training and technical support to CNC operators and production staff on machine operation, setup, and programming. 

  • Develop training materials and standard operating procedures for CNC machining processes. 

  • Assist in the onboarding and development of new CNC machinists. 

  1. Project Management: 

  • Lead projects related to the development and implementation of CNC machining processes. 

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and quality, to ensure project success. 

  • Manage timelines, resources, and budgets for machining projects. 

  1. Documentation and Reporting: 

  • Maintain detailed documentation of CNC programs, setup sheets, and process parameters. 

  • Prepare reports on machining process performance and improvement initiatives. 

  • Document and report any deviations from machining standards and implement corrective actions. 

Job Requirements

Qualifications: 

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. 

  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in CNC machining within a manufacturing environment. 

  • Technical Skills: 

  • Proficiency in CNC programming using CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidCAM). 

  • Knowledge of CNC machine operation, setup, and maintenance. 

  • Understanding of G-code and M-code programming. 

  • Experience with precision measurement instruments and quality control methods. 

  • Familiarity with industry standards and specifications for machined parts. 

Working Conditions: 

  • Primarily based in a manufacturing facility. 

  • May require occasional travel to other sites or vendors. 

  • Exposure to industrial environments, requiring adherence to safety protocols. 

  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when working in machining areas.
