Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Neonatologist to join our team in a Level III NICU. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a supportive environment, offering 24-hour coverage for both the NICU and the newborn nursery. The ideal candidate will have a passion for neonatal care and be comfortable working in a dynamic, team-oriented setting.


Shift Details:
  • 24-hour shifts; in-house from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, followed by call from the hotel from 4:00 PM to 8:00 AM.
  • Shift model includes one MD in-house during the day (8:00 AM to 4:00 PM) and one NNP in-house for 16 hours at night (4:00 PM to 8:00 AM)
  • Provide comprehensive care for neonates in a 9-bed NICU and 20-bed newborn nursery.
  • Conduct daily rounds in the NICU and newborn nursery, managing admissions, discharges, and any necessary medical interventions.
  • Attend emergency C-sections in collaboration with the obstetrics team when the NNP is not present.
  • Oversee and manage neonatal resuscitation, stabilization, and advanced therapies as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with NNPs, nursing staff, and other specialists to ensure optimal care for neonates and newborns.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation in the EMR (Meditech and PremiEHR) of all patient encounters and procedures.
  • Provide support and education to families, discussing the health status and treatment plans for their newborns.

Job Requirements

Facility Overview:
  • Total Facility Bed Size: 133
  • Level III NICU: 9-bed NICU
  • Newborn Nursery: 20-bed
  • Annual Deliveries: 900
  • Average Daily Census: NICU: 2-3 patients, Newborns: 5-8 patients
  • C-section Rate: Approx. 30%
Certification Requirements:
  • Board-certified in Neonatology.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
EMR and Charting:
  • Meditech and PremiEHR. 
Daily Patient Load:
  • Approximately 5-7 total patients between the NICU and the Newborn nursery.


Qualifications:
.
  • Board-certified Neonatologist.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
  • Active state medical license in Virginia or the ability to obtain it.
  • Experience working in a Level III NICU preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, managing the NICU in collaboration with NNPs and the nursing team.

Expedited privileging available for candidates with a clean professional file.
Average credentialing time: 90-120 days
