The MSV Naval Architect is responsible for developing alteration, modification, conversion and technical solutions and upgrades for the MSV program.
The MSV Naval Architect work location is in corporate office in Norfolk, Virginia. The MSV Naval Architect performs periodic travel to the ship or other locations as required. On occasion, such as special projects, the MSV Naval Architect may have other company personnel reporting into him or her in the form of a cross functional team.
KeyResponsibilities:
Develop solutions for changes, alterations, modifications, upgrades and conversions pertaining to the MSV program.
Actively develop work specifications, drawings, and technical information to enable contractors to quote, and regulatory agencies to review, requested modifications.
Complete engineering, mechanical, naval architecture engineering, finite element analysis, loading conditions, etc., required to support the MSV program.
Complete 2D and 3D CAD production engineering drawings and one-line design drawings for MSV program ship system alterations, modifications, upgrades and conversions including, but not limited to, structural, pipe, electrical, ventilation, etc.
Complete photo-realistic renderings of MSV program ships, systems and components, as required.
Be an advocate for shipboard safety, the company safety culture and actively support timely attention to any safety issue.
Act on continuous improvement initiatives with timely attention and completion in a cost-efficient manner.
Perform other position related duties as specified by management.
Support company commitment to safety and other selected standards and certifications
Responsible for meeting the requirements and deadlines in preparation of shipyard specifications, selection of vendors, and optimal utilization of ship's force during the shipyard period.
Support the Program Manager and MSV General Manager as required.
Job Requirements
EducationandExperience
B.S. in Naval Architecture required (B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in addition to Naval Architecture preferred)
Advanced degrees from an accredited institution in business, logistics or equivalent discipline are preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of project management experience and vessel design experience required.
Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) preferred.
Must be eligible for a secret level security clearance.
Proficiency with the following software:
MS Office Suite including Project and Viso
AutoCAD for 2D drawings
Navisworks for 3D model review
Solidworks for 3D model development
Rhinoceros & ORCA 3D for hull modeling
NEiNastran & FEMAP for Finite Element Analysis
Pipe-Flo for piping system design
Multiframe 4D for structural analysis
Maxsurf Pro for 3D hull development and fairing
HydroMax Pro for hydrostatics, longitudinal strength, and complete intact/Damaged Stability Analysis
NavCad for hull resistance and propeller selection
Randomdrugtesting required.
TechnicalSkillsandCompetenciesRequired
Computerliteracyin PCandMarine Management Software systems (Nautical Systems experience preferred)
Excellentinterpersonal skills required for conducting day-to-day business
