Job Summary The Process Technician plays a critical hands-on technical role in supporting cleanroom optical ribbon and fiber optic cable manufacturing. This position provides advanced process expertise, equipment troubleshooting, and technical leadership while remaining on a non-management technical career path. The role supports stable operations, continuous improvement, and production scale-up in a fast-growing manufacturing environment. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities Process & Equipment Support * Operate, monitor, and optimize cleanroom-based optical ribbon and cable manufacturing processes * Perform advanced setup, calibration, and troubleshooting of ribbonization, fiber handling, and bonding equipment * Lead process start-ups, line qualifications, and product changeovers * Troubleshoot complex quality issues including attenuation, ribbon geometry, fiber alignment, and bonding integrity * Support preventive maintenance and equipment reliability initiatives Quality & Compliance * Ensure adherence to cleanroom protocols, SOPs, and safety requirements * Monitor in-line and off-line quality metrics and drive corrective actions * Ensure compliance with ISO, Telcordia/GR, IEC, and customer specifications * Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) Continuous Improvement * Analyze process data using SPC and manufacturing systems to improve yield, throughput, and uptime * Support Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen initiatives * Assist with new equipment installation, process transfers, and plant expansion efforts Technical Leadership * Serve as a technical mentor to Process Technicians and Operators * Provide hands-on training and technical guidance without direct people management responsibilities * Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for assigned processes or equipment ________________________________________
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or related field preferred * 2-3+ years of experience in optical fiber, ribbon, or precision manufacturing * Strong knowledge of cleanroom operations and contamination control * Hands-on experience with optical fiber handling, ribbonization, and precision equipment * Proficiency in SPC, MES, and process data analysis * Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, specifications, and procedures * Strong troubleshooting, communication, and mentoring skills ________________________________________ Preferred Qualifications * Experience with high-count or rollable ribbon fiber products * Knowledge of Telcordia GR-20, GR-409, GR-326, IEC standards * Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification * Experience supporting rapid production scale-up in a cleanroom environment ________________________________________ Physical & Work Requirements * Ability to work on the cleanroom manufacturing floor for extended periods * Manual dexterity for fine fiber handling and equipment adjustments * Ability to lift up to 25 lbs * Ability to wear cleanroom garments for full shift ________________________________________ Work Environment * Day shift in a controlled cleanroom optical manufacturing facility * Exposure to controlled fiber materials, precision equipment, and cleanroom processes
