About the Role Seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Mechanical Technician I. This role would support research and machine build operations, from sourcing and procuring parts through final mechanical assembly. The ideal candidate thrives in a hands-on environment, takes ownership of their work, and can manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision. ________________________________________ Primary Responsibilities Procurement & Parts Management * Obtain quotes from vendors for mechanical parts and components * Place orders and coordinate with the purchasing department to ensure purchase orders are issued accurately and in a timely manner * Track open orders and maintain regular communication with vendors to ensure on-time delivery and adherence to specifications * Identify and escalate delivery issues, quality concerns, or specification discrepancies promptly * Receive, inspect, and organize incoming parts and materials, verifying accuracy against purchase orders and drawings Mechanical Assembly * Gather and stage parts and hardware kits in preparation for machine builds * Assist with mechanical assembly of machines and subassemblies following engineering drawings and documented procedures * Read and interpret mechanical and assembly drawings to ensure accurate part identification and correct assembly Lab & Equipment Support * Assist with the management and organization of labs and lab equipment as needed * Support general upkeep, inventory, and maintenance of lab spaces and tools ________________________________________
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications * Ability to read and interpret mechanical and assembly drawings * Familiarity with common mechanical hardware, fasteners, and assembly tools and techniques * Strong attention to detail * Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative * Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and completely * Effective communication skills for coordinating with vendors, purchasing, and internal team members * Comfortable working in a hands-on, shop/lab environment * Proficiency with basic computer applications (email, spreadsheets, etc.) * High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate or associate degree in a mechanical or manufacturing-related discipline preferred, equivalent experience of 4+ years can substitute for an associate degree. ________________________________________ Bonus Skills * Electrical Drawing Interpretation: Ability to read electrical schematics and perform basic low-voltage wiring according to drawings * Mechanical Drafting: Ability to create mechanical part drawings or assembly drawings using Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD software * Prior experience with vendor management, procurement, or supply chain coordination ________________________________________ Work Environment & Physical Requirements * This position is 100% on-site with less than 10% remote work on an occasional basis * Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift parts/materials regularly (up to 50 lbs as needed) * Work is performed in a combination of office, lab, and shop/assembly floor environments
