Aerie Pharmaceuticals is seeking an experienced Senior Associate Scientist, Discovery to join our team in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The Senior Associate Scientist is responsible for conducting in vivo preclinical studies for target identification, target modulation, model development and drug screening.  This role works in a multi-disciplinary environment while working to meet R&D goals and deadlines. 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities
  • Support drug discovery, screening and preclinical model development utilizing in vivo models
  • Conduct in vivo and ex vivo studies including endpoint analyses
  • Perform a variety of laboratory tasks and experiments based on established protocols
  • Maintain detailed experimental records
  • Write study summaries and technical reports for decision-making purposes
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings to discuss study results and plan future studies to advance therapeutic candidates
Qualification Requirements:
Education & Experience 
  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Immunology, Biology, Biochemistry or closely-related discipline required
  • At least 3 years (MS) or 5 years (BS) of directly-related experience in a research institution and/or pharmaceutical industry required
  • Experience in routine techniques and assays including tissue dissection, test article administration, ELISA and basic microscopy required
  • Must have experience in in vivo and ex vivo studies, such as proficiency in multiple delivery routes, tissue dissection, ELISA, sample preparation, microscopy
  • Experience with one or more of the following is required: immunostaining, microscopy, ELISAs, multiplex platforms, qPCR, and/or Western blotting
  • Demonstrated experience with animal models of disease required
  • Ability to travel up to 5% required
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Flow cytometry experience is highly desirable
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communicational skills as well as ability to perform tasks independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to follow pre-established experimental designs, as well as the ability to develop new methods and protocols

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; blood borne pathogens (i.e. saliva, blood, instruments and sharps); dust and extremely hot water; and laboratory equipment
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually mild
