BHI Energy has an opportunity for a long term contract Designer
who will be the main customer contact for new energy services and service modifications. Designs cost and energy efficient electrical distribution systems for new business, public improvement, system reinforcement, maintenance, and privately owned systems using emerging technology.
Gives direction to Field Techs and Scheduling Coordinators as it pertains to the energy service process. Assists in the training of new Designers, Field Techs and Scheduling Coordinators.
¨ Determines and develops most cost efficient solutions to meet customer needs.
¨ Assures that system elements are properly sized according to standards, policies, and procedures.
¨ Works with Planning and Distribution Engineers to determine system requirements.
¨ Is familiar with legal descriptions of real property and determines easement requirements and processes to the Land
¨ Responsible for keeping up to date with Company policies and procedures concerning service installation and
¨ Responsible for keeping the customer informed about Company policies and procedures and any education the
customer may required to understand the Company’s requirements for service.
¨ Responsible for correct accounting procedures for all work orders and job cost estimates.
¨ Coordinates projects to meet customer requirements and deadlines.
¨ Oversees service delivery to ensure projects adhere to corporate policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
¨ Coordinates material requirements and other installation processes.
¨ Coordinates and interfaces with other groups to ensure activities are scheduled effectively to minimize customer
¨ Responsible for communicating to all effected parties issues concerning construction work outside Electric Service
¨ Direct Field Technicians to help plan all aspects of design projects and inspection work.
¨ Continuously communicates with the Design/Build Group Leaders, Key Account Managers, and Construction
Supervisors as required to coordinate activities and enable the work group to ensure customer satisfaction.
¨ Provides information requested in a timely manner.
¨ Interacts with work groups to better communicate requirements of all work orders and projects in the Designers
¨ Perform assigned work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Company practices and procedures.
This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
¨ Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of employees and customers, including speaking and
describing distribution requirements.
¨ Able to solve customer problems and disputes.
¨ Solid understanding of the financial impact the Designer position has to the UDC.
¨ Able to work with people in a team environment
¨ Technical background in electrical theory, electrical Transmission and distribution systems, solid understanding of
electrical utility business.
¨ Knowledgeable about electric utility services, products, service requirements and construction standards.
¨ Working knowledge of codes, ordinances, franchise agreements, Blue Stake laws, right-of-ways and easements.
¨ Currently, or has been a Field Technician or has successfully completed an apprenticeship.
¨ Maintain a high level of awareness of environmental considerations that impact them, their jobs and the Company to
the level of their knowledge, raining and experience.
