This position maps to our Engineering classification and agencies. This position is intended for roles requiring technical experience such as engineering or construction. Manages the entire project lifecycle from project definition through implementation. Accountable for meeting agreed upon scope, cost, schedule and quality measures. Develops project plan and drives project milestones. Establishes effective communication plan with project team and key stakeholders. Provides day-to-day direction to project resources and ensures the project teams are provided the resources and support that enable the teams to reach their defined objectives. Ensures effective change management occurs throughout the course of the project. Responsible for preparation of documentation and status reports. Role requires excellent oral and written communications, interpersonal, negotiation, project planning, judgment, leadership, decision-making, analysis and problem-solving skills. Expert knowledge of MS Project, Excel, MS Word and Visio.

Job Requirements

 

 We are looking for PMs with utility experience specifically related to transmission lines and substations. They need experience and technical expertise on the entire project lifecycle: conceptual development, broad and detailed design, procurement, construction, etc. Many of the previous candidates are generation based or have only really managed the construction portion of utility projects. That doesn’t give them the experience or understanding they need to be successful in our unique part of the business that facilitates very complex groups of projects from conception through final completion. We understand this is fairly unique compared to industry standards/practices, which is why we are willing to interview candidates that only minimally meet these expectations. Position summary Provides strategic project management leadership for multiple, complex, high-voltage (69-500kV) transmission projects with total annual capital costs of $10 – 200 million. Responsible for overall project scope, schedule, cost and risk management. Manages team to achieve approved project scope, develops strategic sequencing and detailed milestone schedules, project-level cost tracking and reconciliation. Coordinates development of detailed cost estimates, schedules and associated project RFP’s, RFQ’s, contracts, etc. Responsible for leading projects through all internal and external processes. Manages the project scope, schedule and closely plans and manages all project costs. Ensures availability or seeks out adequate resources for projects. Leads and participates significantly in all state and local regulatory and permitting issues including PUC certificates and local land use or construction permits. Prepares oral and written testimony & presentations related to these facilities. Prepares regular executive reports and/or presentations related to project schedule and financial health. Delegates and oversee work performed by Project Controls personnel on a daily basis. Minimum requirements · BS Engineering, Project Management, Construction, Business, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience · Minimum of 1 year engineering, project management or construction management related to high-voltage substation and/or transmission line experience or combination of experience providing equivalent knowledge · Minimum of 2 years’ experience in project management with some formal project management training · Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred · Demonstrated ability to lead and influence others · Strong presentation and facilitation skills; excellent written/verbal communications skills required · Understanding of core business processes/ industry trends with ability to understand/apply ongoing changes · Knowledge of project planning and business need justification process and methodology · Ability to adapt to change quickly and work within a diverse, cross-functional team environment · Vendor/contract management experience preferred · Valid driver’s license required · Frequent daily and occasional overnight travel
