BHI Energy | Staffing Solutions (SSG)  is searching for qualified candidates on behalf of one of our key clients for their open  Environmental Specialist I position located in Piketon, Ohio.
 
 
POSITION SUMMARY:
 
Under the direct supervision of the Environmental Service Manager assist in developing and administering programs and policies to ensure the Company is in full compliance with new and existing federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations applicable to the coal-fired electric utility industry.

Environmental Services Manager or Designee
 
AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY:
 
Within the limits of delegated authority and in accordance with established policies and procedures, is responsible for the fulfillment of the following:
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Under the supervision of the Environmental Services Manager or designee responsible for the following:
 
Comply with assigned tasks that are consistent with all Company safety procedures and policies to support a Zero Harm culture.
 
Support and participate in the Company"s and the Environmental Department"s Strategic Plans and be committed to their execution.
 
Be able to develop, administer, and execute compliance activities associated with the Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) Rule, as well as restricted/residual waste in the states of Indiana and Ohio. These activities include, but are not limited to, groundwater monitoring activities, various technical evaluations of CCR surface impoundments and landfill, development of various compliance and technical reports, and securing permits as appropriate.
 
Work with strategic partners (legal counsel, consultants, utility peers, state and federal regulatory agencies, and technical contractors) as needed to support compliance activities.
 
Provide support to coal-fired plant staff as needed through the preparation of guidance/policies, general compliance support, inspection support, or audit support as needed.
 
Maintain a high level of technical competence by remaining current on existing and new environmental regulations. Work with various industry trade groups and stay informed of current plant operational practices and procedures.
 
Work with Company personnel in a team atmosphere to maintain compliance with all applicable environmental; regulations.
 
Interact with federal, state, and local environmental agency personnel on a regular basis.
 
Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Assure that safe work practices are followed and make suggestions for improvements to these existing safety programs.
 
Responsible for knowing and complying with the laws and Code of Business Conduct related to the performance of the aforementioned duties.

 
Job Requirements

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Bachelor"s degree in engineering, engineering technology or any other related natural or physical science, such as, but not limited to, biology, chemistry, physics, or geology.  A master's degree is a plus, but not required.  
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
 
Work is performed in both office and plant settings. 
 
Routinely work in an office environment.   Conduct work at coal-fired power plant sites, electrical substations, or microwave stations. Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents or hazards, legacy facility condition hazards, electrical hazards, environmental hazards, industrial hazards, and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed.

 Training associated with job-specific and general site hazards is required.

 Ability to perform sedentary to light work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (any exertion of force/lifting greater than 45 pounds requires usage of a two person 'buddy system'), non-repetitive, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly, repetitive; performing such activities as lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, grasping, kneeling, stooping, reaching, climbing stairs, operating a motor vehicle, and noise from operating equipment.
 
Ability to perform primary office duties, including heavy computer usage.
 
Ability to wear PPE, including safety glasses, safety shoes, and a hard hat.
