Position Description:
Providing operational health physics (HP) support to assigned facilities, consultative advice to line
and facility management, technical support, and developing and implementing elements of the
Radiation Protection (RP) Compliance Program.
1. Capable of making recommendations concerning the procurement, specification, calibration, testing
and maintenance of RP instrumentation, and presents recommendations in a clear and effective manner.
2. Possesses a thorough knowledge of the Canadian Safety Nuclear Commission (CNSC) regulations and is familiar with instrument standards, guidelines or recommendations.
3. RP controls for the purposes of optimizing protection of workers due to ionizing radiation.
4. Selection of radiation and contamination measuring and monitoring equipment and technically competent to review and develop RP instrument related documents, work of other professionals and facility documents for accuracy, adequacy and compliance with the RP program.
5. Decontamination methods and techniques.
6. Characterization and release radiological surveys.
7. Provide oversight on RP Program implementation.
8. Complete ALARA assessments include associated documentation (e.g. Radiological Work Permits, Radiological Work Assessment, Post-work ALARA reviews, details design reviews and plans).
9. Review and assess the intended use of RP instrumentation to confirm its suitability.
10. Complete shielding calculations and dose assessments.
11. Provide guidance the handling and management of radiation sources.
12. Is able to work in an office environment and to perform site walk-downs
13. Capable of travel within Canada and abroad for the purposes of visiting other sites and industry benchmarking and consultation
