THE ROLE

Genetic Multiplication & Production Strategy

  • Develop and execute a swine multiplication strategy to optimize genetic improvement and commercial production.
  • Oversee the management of nucleus, multiplication, and genetic transfer herds to ensure quality and productivity.
  • Work closely with genetic suppliers and internal teams to integrate top-performing genetics into the system.
  • Monitor and analyze production metrics, including selection rates, genetic progress, and multiplication efficiency.
  • Ensure proper biosecurity and health protocols to protect genetic integrity.

Operational Oversight & Performance Management

  • Supervise the daily operations of multiplication units, ensuring adherence to performance and efficiency goals.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement improvement plans for production teams.
  • Ensure optimal breeding, farrowing, and weaning processes for genetic propagation.
  • Develop and maintain production schedules to align with company objectives.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor farm managers and multiplication teams, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Provide training and guidance on genetic selection, herd management, and best practices.
  • Conduct performance reviews and implement professional development plans for team members.

Biosecurity & Compliance

  • Implement and enforce strict biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreaks and maintain herd health.
  • Ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations, industry standards, and company protocols.
  • Conduct facility audits and work with veterinary teams to uphold herd health programs.

Collaboration & Innovation

  • Work closely with R&D, nutrition, and veterinary teams to enhance genetic and production efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with external partners, including genetic companies, researchers, and industry groups.
  • Stay informed on the latest advancements in swine genetics, multiplication techniques, and reproductive technologies.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Genetics, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in swine production, with a strong focus on multiplication and genetic programs.
  • Proven leadership experience managing nucleus/multiplication herds and high-level production teams.

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep understanding of swine genetics, reproductive technologies, and genetic selection strategies.
  • Strong data analysis skills with the ability to track genetic progress, production efficiency, and KPI trends.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with R&D, nutrition, and veterinary teams.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a farm environment with exposure to animals, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and performing physical tasks as needed.
