Start-up joint venture is looking to hire a Regional Sales Manager for its feed processing division to cover the South Eastern United States. The feed equipment consultant is the “go to” individual for the territory; proactively pursuing sales, providing continual support of company products, systems, and technology.

Duties & Responsibilities

1st 6 months – Learning
  • You will ride with a Territory Manager to learn the business
  • You will learn the difference between a:  lead; qualified lead; & customer
  • Heighten your observation and listening skills (two eyes, two ears, one mouth – think about it)
  • Using your previous experience and background – learn a consultative approach
  • Learn about the products:  Visit customer sites and manufacturing plants
  • Attend trade shows/industry conventions
  • Learn to expand your network knowledge and capabilities
  • Get to know your sales/marketing/engineering support staff
  • Learn how to transfer your observations into meaningful actionable reports
2nd 6 months – Learning 2.0
  • Work with sales/marketing team to establish and map territory
  • Work with Marketing to determine those companies to target first
  • Begin setting up your schedule to contact the feed mills in the territory
  • Start your prospecting – learn who the decision makers are
  • Use your experience and background and consultative approach to:
    • Start building relationships, establish your credibility and become a trusted advisor
    • Start your market survey – learn about their current and/or future needs
      • New equipment – expanding capacity – growth plans
      • Learn how to prepare sales presentations and write proposals
      • Sit in with the Sales/Engineering staff during sales calls and learn how to close the sale
      • Work closely with Sales /Engineering staff to learn and heighten your negotiation skills
Year Two & Beyond – Take over your territory
  • Build on the past years experience
  • Continue your sales and marketing campaign by meeting with the mills in your territory
  • Continue to build working relationships, improve your credibility & become their trusted advisor
  • Determine qualified leads – work with the sales team to strategize on how best to proceed
  • Fine tune your presentation/proposal writing skills
  • Work with company support staff to heighten your negotiation skills
  • Work closely with your customers to facilitate equipment installations & commissioning
  • Provide continued support and liaise between the customer and your tech support team
  • Begins to start setting realistic sales goals based on the market survey information you have been accumulating.

 
Job Requirements

 

To be considered for this role:
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Feed Mill industry; Feed production related to broilers and layers preferred. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Business, or Engineering preferred
  • Self-starter and self-motivated with an enthusiastic attitude
  • In depth knowledge of feed production facilities and associated equipment
  • Strong track record of dealing with production/efficiency issues as they relate to profitability
  • Experienced with Safe Food/Safe Feed protocols and their impact on operations
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at various stages at any given time
  • Capable of reading and interpreting process flow diagrams
  • Strong ability to develop and maintain relationships
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Competent in all Microsoft Office programs: word, excel, power point
  • Ability to travel 30-40%
