The Registrar and Financial Aid Offices are seeking a part-time (10-15 hours per week) Veterans Certification Specialist join their team. The Veterans Certification Specialist will perform a range of duties associated with certification and administration for Veterans Administration (VA) educational benefits in accordance with all applicable legal requirements and guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reviews applications and other information and certifies student enrollment status for VA benefits.
Determines appropriate VA educational program and eligibility and provides necessary forms.
Reviews completed forms for accuracy and completeness.
Monitors students' enrollment, academic progress and course completion to ensure compliance with VA requirements.
Tracks, updates and monitors VA student status and notify VA of any students not making progress. Notify VA of course withdrawals and change of majors.
Monitors incoming payments made by the Department of Veterans Affairs on behalf of GI Bill? recipients; adjusts VA certifications determined by financial aid awards.
Provides list of VA benefit recipients to Student Account Services; verifies and initiates refunds to students for overpayments of tuition and fees.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of VA regulations, rules and policies regarding educational benefits eligibility and certification, VA State Approving Agency regulations and associated practices, processes and procedures.
Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other state and federal laws, rules, regulations and policies governing student admissions and financial aid.
Knowledge of methods and techniques of interviewing and advising students and applicants.
Additional Position Information:
The Veterans Certification Specialist will work approximately 10-15 hours per week, for a total of less than 1,000 hours per year. Scheduled hours per week will depend on availability and operational needs.
Campus-based position working in an office environment.
Work requires visual strain, use of computer.
