We have been exclusively retained by a growing high-tech company headquartered in San Jose, CA  to help them identify and hire a Corporate Controller for their corporate office in Montreal, Canada.  The company has gone through some exciting changes earlier this year and is Controller position is a key leadership position for the Accounting/Finance team.  The Controller will report to the interim CFO and have the authority and responsibility for corporate accounting, consolidations, financial systems, external financial reporting and implementing and maintaining internal controls in a fast-paced environment. This is truly a unique opportunity to lead and grow the finance team as this cutting-edge technology company evolves and expands its markets and products.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage all areas of accounting operations, including monthly and quarterly close processes, AP/AR/GL, fixed assets, payroll, international and consolidations, contracts, revenue recognition treatment and compliance, collections and managing outsourced functions.
  • Take a leadership role in establishing organizational policies, operating procedures and business controls that match the growth and complexity of the company.
  • Ensure that the financials are accurate, and reporting is timely thus providing management with the best information possible to grow the business.
  • Work with the US Headquarters ensuring the timely and accurate filing of SEC reporting and Sarbanes Oxley compliance.
  • Provide leadership and support to the CFO and CEO on M&A transactions and other strategic initiatives.
  • Function as primary interface with external auditors.
  • Act as the key interface with the Audit Committee and present to the Board of Directors as required.
  • Acts as a technical resource for the company. Advise the company on the impact of new accounting pronouncements. Act as an expert on matters related to revenue recognition, stock option accounting and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
  •  Recruit, hire, and retain top talent for the accounting organization. 
Near-term Goals and objectives: 
  • Streamline and improve the monthly and quarterly close process.
  • Manage an upgrade of the Oracle system.
  • Provide continuous business process improvements so the finance team works smarter not harder. 

 
Job Requirements

 

Requirements:
  • Experience should include 10 - 15 years of business experience in technology, preferably in a complex technology environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent experience). A CPA is preferred.
  • Exceptional analytical and real-time problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to provide solutions.
  • Strong knowledge in revenue recognition in IFRS and ASC 606.
  • Functional knowledge of international taxation and legal entity accounting.
  • Detailed understanding of current SEC, US GAAP, and current technical accounting pronouncements, especially revenue recognition is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated skills in implementing processes and systems to leverage staffing level requirements.
  • Knowledge of financial systems and tools. Oracle and Workiva experience are a distinct plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated successful experience leading cross functionally.
  • Ability to exercise positive influence in individual and group situations on a regular basis.
  • Ability to lead in a fast-paced and rapidly emerging business environment.
  • Superb attention to detail yet able to operate at the strategic level.
