A Financial Services and Technology client of ours is looking to grow their Infrastructure Engineering and Services team and they have a rather unique opening for a senior level Infrastructure Engineer to join their team in the Greater New York City area.  This role is project focused and centered around the evolution of the Desktop Transformation.  It is unique because it will be responsible for the specific technical design AND implementation of both new solutions and enhancements to existing solutions.  This engineer will have the ability to collaborate across all IT teams and they will be looked to for providing the necessary expertise to technically drive the project through the full lifecycle from initial concept to design to implementation and to handover to production support.

Additionally, the role involves a broad range of technology exposure - in particular, it will focus largely on Microsoft technologies (Exchange on prem, O365, Windows Server) along with Citrix, Xen Desktop, VMWare ESX and some cloud work (AWS).

Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the overall strategy and architecture definition for the internal technology infrastructure, remote access and collaboration tools.  The primary focus for this role is technically leading the Wintel based projects, extending to Citrix and cloud technologies, such as Microsoft O365.
  • Design technical infrastructure solutions (High Level Design and Low Level Designs) that meet service delivery needs, security requirements and provisions for the future needs of the business based on IT Strategy.  This should include all governance and non-governance design and support documentation.
  • Once the design is approved, the individual should be able to competently deploy this design into a Proof of Concept (PoC) lab or run as an initial pilot, documenting the expected and actual results.  Once finalized and agreed, the engineer will provide hands on implementation of the solution through to full delivery of the product into production.
  • Provide last line support for solutions delivered by the engineering function in line with existing IT service management processes.  Act as an escalation point, for Service Operations where there is a need to escalate from L2 to L3 and for problems pertaining to IT technology and with a view to re-engineering.  There will be a requirement to be on call, 1 week in 6.
  • Successfully transition the support of new technologies to Service Operations.
  • Participate in the transformation of documentation.  This is to assist in building a set of ‘best practice’ documents that can be used for both audit purposes and education.

Job Requirements

Background:
The successful candidate needs to come from an environment where they primarily designed and implemented IT infrastructure solutions around components such as Citrix, VDI, XenDesktop, Exchange on-premise, migration from Exchange on-premise to O365, VMware ESX, Citrix Netscaler or ADC, Active Directory, Powershell scripting, Windows 10, Windows Server 2019 etc. It is important that this candidate has a demonstrated background in not only designing infrastructure but then implementing the solution and handing it over to the support team.  A strong awareness of change control process would be beneficial along with an understanding of firewall rules.  This is not to implement the rules but understand what rules need to be requested, via change, for the solution they are implementing.

Experience with:
  • Creation of technical governance documentation, such as Solution Outline and High Level Design as well as authoring Low Level Designs.
  • Windows Server Builds  (Windows 2019 is highly desirable)
  • Design and management of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure
  • Migrations from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and from Exchange OnPrem to Office365
  • Strong understanding of designing to meet security principles and compliance
  • Citrix and Remote Access (Netscaler / ADC highly desirable)

Desired/Preferred Skills:
  • Experience working in a network heavily segregated by firewalls.  Appreciation of networking and the understanding of firewall rules
  • Understanding of building a product that will result in zero findings on a penetration test
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions involving AWS
