Our client is an industry leader in industrial chemical manufacturing and distribution.  They are a privately held, global company, headquartered just outside of Philadelphia, PA.  The company is 50 years old, but has grown quite a bit in recent years as a result of some acquisitions across the globe.  They are currently working on a company-wide initiative to consolidate all of their locations to a single instance of their ERP solution (MS Dynamics).  Along with moving to a single “global system”, the IT team will become a true shared-service model to provide more streamlined support to the entire organization.  A critical component of this move to Dynamics is to enhance their Data Reporting and Analytics capabilities.  They are a full-stack Microsoft environment, so they are using PowerBI to sit on top of Dynamics to provide the reporting.  Therefore, they are looking to hire a Data Reporting and Analytics Analyst to join the Global IT team and serve as the Subject Matter Expert in PowerBI.

The Data Reporting and Analytics Analyst will review and provide input on solution architecture, guide decisions, collaborate on implementation and provide training and guidance to the teams. Functionally, the Analyst will be working together with the business to guide them into letting them write their own reports and will provide presentations and training for technical staff and power users.  Technically, the Analyst will be responsible for bringing together key performance and operational data for the enterprise from a variety of systems and databases and run through PowerBI to provide critical business analytics and insight.  The creation of dashboards is already underway, and the Analyst will take the lead in enhancing this capability.

  • Work with various levels of the organization to capture project goals, objectives, and the associated requirements.
  • Develop overall strategies and roadmaps for the Business Analytics and reporting area including data warehousing and modeling, analytics approaches.
  • Provide oversight of global reporting standards, design and development.
  • Primary focus will be to understand the business process flow, involved applications and data flow for end to end process.
  • Work with key business stakeholders to determine various KPIs and data reporting needs for various levels
  • Gather requirements for building external and internal data dashboards. Work with vendors and customer to understand data needs
  • Understand various roles and responsibilities in business group for better data governance and data security
  • Work with Applications, Master Data Management and Development teams to understand data flow and data ownership
  • Partner with the user community, to identify their business requirements; analyze business processes; analyze source data; produce functional specifications, data flows and business rules; and assist with the implementation of those specifications
  • Drive the initiation, planning, requirements, design, test and post-production phases of the solution development life cycle
  • Serve as point of contact for troubleshooting data related issues and coordinating with cross-functional teams
  • Drive the periodic release cycles and work with business stakeholders to prioritize bugs and enhancements
  • Provide project management support for CIOs initiatives and projects
  • Analyze data through data mining and data auditing to provide actionable insights to business operations and contribute to setting data strategy
  • Develop and track key metrics to identify opportunities for improvement, patterns and correlation in cases of complex data sets
  • Document data flow between applications to educate business and development teams

Job Requirements



  • Bachelor’s Degree or Professional Industry Designation
  • 7+ years of functional/technical experience with various business intelligence tools and data dashboards
  • 5+ years of experience in leading the design and development of BI solutions within data visualization tools and knowledge of best design practices, including dimensional modeling, SQL scripting, analytics and dashboarding
  • Extensive hands-on experience in Power BI.  Including, but not limited to Data Set(s) ingestion and transformation, Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) language for formula creation and report development using the most appropriate report templates for given data set(s).  Microsoft Dynamics Power BI certification a plus, but not necessary
  • Well versed in the Microsoft data stack (SQL Server, SSIS/SSRS, Azure) 
  • Knowledge of ETL tools like Azure data factory
  • Strong SQL skills with the ability to write complex SQL statements to analyze data and create prototypes.
  • Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping, and methodology development.  Solid business acumen; ability to understand and anticipate business needs to provide appropriate solutions
  • Experience working with external development teams at various levels. Working with onshore/offshore model is preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills with a demonstrated record of exceeding customer expectations
  • Strong team player with excellent listening, interpersonal, facilitation, written, oral and communication skills; ability to effectively communicate concepts in both technical and user-friendly language to management, peers, staff, and other employees so that issues and solutions are understood.
